In the wake of September 11, many analysts speculated that the pace of global integration would slow significantly. Global economic integration did suffer a significant setback, with world trade and global capital flows in decline. But globalization involves more than just the ebb and flow of economic cycles, and as this year’s Globalization Index reveals, other aspects of globalization sustained their forward momentum. Political engagement has deepened, and levels of global personal contact and technological integration have continued to grow.
