Fourth Annual Pharmaceuticals Roundtable

Fourth Annual Pharmaceuticals Roundtable:
Sketching a new face for pharma: Trusted and profitable
The Union League, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
November 17-18, 2004

A.T. Kearney is proud to have recently served as lead sponsor of one of the pharmaceutical industry's premier annual events, the Fourth Annual Pharmaceuticals Roundtable, presented by Economist Conferences. The theme of this year's Roundtable was "Sketching a New Face for Pharma: Trusted and Profitable."

The Roundtable delegates addressed some of the toughest issues facing the pharmaceutical industry today. After decades of exceptional growth, the industry is now coping with a period of slower earnings expansion. These diminished returns show up clearly in the stock market, where pharmaceutical company valuations are much lower than they have been historically. Participants agreed that, in order to improve their prospects, drug companies must address a number of issues. These include declining efficiency and effectiveness of R&D efforts, faltering sales and marketing campaigns, and the high costs of administrative overhead. And, of course, the industry will need to work hard to regain the public trust that surveys show it has been losing recently.

In addition to our sponsorship, A.T. Kearney was proud to also join the roster of distinguished pharma industry executives who presented at the conference. Chris White, A.T. Kearney Vice President, shared recent A.T. Kearney research on how pharmaceuticals companies can position themselves now to capture the benefits of pharma outsourcing and offshoring.
