Kai Engel

Kai Engel is a partner in A.T. Kearney and the Innovation and R&D Management Practice Lead for Europe. He is based in the Dusseldorf office.

Kai has developed specific expertise in the areas of strategic innovation management, (innovation strategy, portfolio management, innovation-to-profit, etc.) supplier-driven innovation approaches, complexity management, design-to-cost, supply chain, as well as purchasing and manufacturing strategy. Typical engagements across a variety of industries include:

• Design and implement innovation strategies
• Improve corporate innovation management capabilities to foster profitable growth
• Conceptualize and implement lean development and manufacturing
• Design and implement operations improvement programs, including manufacturing, network optimization, sourcing and R&D, creating a step-change in profitability

He has authored several books, including Innovation management (German) and Best Innovators – Successful strategies of innovation leaders. In addition, Kai chairs top executive roundtables regularly and is a frequent presenter for business and industry conferences.

Previous to A.T. Kearney, Kai worked in the high tech industry heading R&D departments.

Kai earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hannover and in Business Administration at the University of Braunschweig, both in Germany.
