Variety of program options

A.T. Kearney’s Global Mobility Program provides three options that balance the needs of individuals and the firm:

Exchanges – provide employees with a temporary experience in another market, as a personal or developmental opportunity. For example, a tailored program can be developed for a high potential employee to gain a concentrated and carefully designed experience in another market

Transfers – combine business needs and personal preferences for a period of time or on a permanent basis to fill an open position. Individuals transfer to the “host” country under local terms and conditions of employment in that country

Assignments – become available because of a temporary, specific, and critical need within a market or functional area. The individual maintains their home country purchasing power and benefit levels to facilitate successful repatriation upon completion of the assignment

Mauricio’s experience

After two years with A.T. Kearney in our New York and Washington, D.C. offices, I joined our newly established Dubai office in 2007. My wife and I thought moving to Dubai could be an exotic, enriching, and exciting opportunity for the both of us. So far, the experience has exceeded our expectations from both personal and professional perspectives.

On the personal side, we have been able to experience and understand cultures, ways of living, and ways of doing business that are quite distant from our Mexican and Canadian roots. From having traditional Iftar in a Bahraini living room in Manama, to plucking tea in Kandy, to negotiating the purchase of a goat in Al Ain, living in Dubai has allowed us to experience not only the Arabian world, but also a variety of countries in the rest of the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

On the professional side, moving with A.T. Kearney to a different region has provided the opportunity to work on a very different assortment of engagements and in a ubiquitously cross-cultural environment. It has provided the opportunity to work with colleagues from all edges of the globe to grow our business in a new region and build new practices virtually from scratch. For my wife, the move allowed her to do a career switch that would have been difficult to do at home, and she loves it!

Moving to a new region, not only exposes us to new challenges that stretch us professionally and personally, but it also provides unparalleled opportunities for partners and children. I highly recommend it!
